Chic Meets Social Good at Peters Path

8 06 2009

Twitter introduced me to Peters Path last month ago, but this online boutique has been active for a lot longer than that. The store uses its online storefront to bring eco-conscious styles to individuals while also raising funds for different charities on a monthly basis.

After serving on various mission trips, the owner, Christine Peters, knew that she wanted to do something on an ongoing basis to assist various charities. Originally, she thought about just creating a line of t-shirts but decided that she would open an online store instead. And, that brings us to Peters Path.

Every month, Peters Path donates a portion of their proceeds to non-profit organizations that promote equality and empowerment, fight poverty, aid those less fortunate and foster community service. Christine believes that we can all do our part to make a difference! “Helping people can be as simple as buying clothes,” says Christine. I wholeheartedly agree!

This month’s featured charity is Kate’s Club, a non-profit organization that empowers children and teens facing life after the death of a parent or sibling by creating friendships with kids and young adults who share the experience. Participants go on buddy outings, enjoy time at a Clubhouse, and attend support groups where they are encouraged to discuss their feelings in an open, yet safe environment. Kate’s Club is an amazing organization, one which I may not have ever learned about if it wasn’t for Peters Path, so kudos to Christine and team for not only raising funds but building awareness!

Peters Path carries women’s clothing, accessories, and even home decor. Check out the cool salt and pepper shakers below! To learn more about the company, visit their website at www.peterspathstore.com!

“Tue” Fabulous

21 04 2009

Last month, I discovered Polyvore while blog-surfing. The author had all of these great collages of fashion, beauty, celebs, and more. This immediately got my wheels spinning. How could I incorporate the sheer amazingness of Polyvore into my fabulous giving theme? Aha! I’ve decided to upgrade “Tue” Fabulous to my very own collage featured around one items with a charitable focus!

So, today’s item would be those lovely Carlos by Carlos Santana shoes in the bottom right corner. These leather sandals will probably become staples in your wardrobe. The T-Strap keeps it classic while the reptile texture brings the style into the modern day. You can grab these shoes on sale for $52.99 by clicking here. Carlos by Carlos Santana is a proud supporter of the Milagro Foundation, an organization benefitting underserved children in communities all around the world!

Valentine Hugs and Kisses to Save The Children!

30 01 2009

This morning on The View, actress Julianne Moore stopped by to talk about the special edition Valentine’s Day cards being developed and sold to benefit Save the Children. So, of course, I had to check out the website and view all the cards for myself. They are sooo freaking cute! And, I’m not a big believer in Valentine’s Day at all. Well, let me take that back. I believe in doing cutesy stuff for my family/friends but don’t feel the pressure to spend it with a romantic partner. Does that make sense?

Anyways, for $25 you can purchase 28 cards, either designed by contemporary artists or by children.

Contemporary Designs:

VDAY Contemporary

Children’s Designs:

VDAY Children

These cards would make a perfect gift for a friend, or you could buy them yourself and give them out to all your favorite folks! All orders must be received by February 4th. For more information on Save the Children’s Valentine’s Day shop, click here.

Last Minute Notice!

18 12 2008

Photobucket

Hey, all! I meant to post this earlier, but the day completely got away from me! Anywho, Mr. Mariah Carey himself, Nick Cannon, will be DJing tonight at The Underground‘s First Annual “Grinch Who Gave Back Christmas” benefit. Tonight’s event is raising money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation

You’ll be asked to make a donation at the door so DON’T be cheap especially since it will be donated to a great cause, and you get to party in the same room as Mr. Wildin’ Out! Not too shabby!

P.S. If you do go out tonight, please be careful. With tonight’s ice storm and Daley’s trifling nature, the streets will most certainly be hazardous! I was planning to hit a few events tonight, but if you know me then you know that I refuse to combine unnecessary driving and inclement weather! So, I’m very sad about tonight…especially since I always have a great time at Underground (one of many examples below)!

Celebrity Spotlight: Ludacris

17 12 2008

Ludacris

Celebrities deserve some shine for all of the good works that they do. I’m dedicating the first celebrity spotlight to Chris “Ludacris” Bridges for three reasons…

1. He kicked off his “LudaCrismas in Toyland” initiative here in Chicago on Tuesday

2. He has been one of the most consistent philanthropic entertainers. Since 2001, the Ludacris Foundation has donated over $750,000 to nonprofit organizations.

3. He looks TOO sharp in the photo above (taken at a recent shoot for Michigan Avenue Magazine).

LudaCrismas will visit New York on Thursday and Miami on Friday before returning to Atlanta to host an event on Saturday. The Ludacris Foundation partnered with community organizations in each city to put together an event for children to enjoy food, entertainment, and games in a festive holiday environment! These Christmas parties are apart of the LudaCares Initiative which is dedicated to supporting kids and families in need during the holiday season

If you would like to show your support for this foundation and learn more the programs offered, please head on over to the website. Go LUDA!

P.S. “LudaCrismas” is not to be confused with “LudaChristmas,” the holiday event featured on 30 Rock…In case you were wondering!

Eating Out and Helping to End Hunger

27 09 2008

I’ve been doing a LOT of things while out here in DC. I’m talking shopping, sightseeing, volunteering, sleeping, etc. And, I’ve also been eating out every day. So, imagine my delight when I learned that a lot of the restaurants that I’ve been visiting are participating in this week’s Great American Dineout. The weeklong nationwide program kicked off on Sunday the 21st and goes until the 28th!

During the Great American Dineout, participating restaurants donate a portion of their proceeds to help end childhood hunger. My favorite part about events like this is that they don’t require you to do anything out of the ordinary. You just go to one of your favorite spots (if they’re participating), order your food, and that’s it. It’s so simple!

To find restaurants near you, or for more information, please visit greatamericandineout.org!

Here are some participating DC restaurants that my family or I have eaten in this week…

Corner Bakery – Union Station (From where I’m currently blogging…Lol)

Legal Sea Foods on 7th

Charlie Palmer Steak

Daily Grill

I’m sure that when I get back to Chicago, my scale will definitely reflect the amount of eating that’s happened this week. But, if most of it was for a good cause, then I should get some kind of “weight gain” pardon. Right? Yeah, I didn’t think so. If there was some type of philanthropy associated with my local gym, then maybe I would find myself there more often. :-)

P.S. Did anyone know that Corner Bakery had wi-fi? I didn’t! I guess wireless is almost everywhere now!

It should be no surprise that Philosophy has a line of products dedicated to raising funds for charity. I mean, this beauty brand wants you “to live a better life by being better to yourself.” And, there’s no better way to be better to yourself than to be better to someone else.

Philosophy carries various products to benefit charities…See below for the lineup!

It’s an organization to “heal, educate, and empower” survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse. It’s great to see that she’s leveraging her television role and celebrity for a great cause.
